Swallow Needles Make Their Point in the Art World
Swallow Needles have been handcrafted for over 100 years and now they have been created into two new and interesting art forms.
A Work of Art
Artist Dan Scurry, is currently completing his art piece using knitting needles. There are approximately 2000 needles in the piece. He likes using knitting needles because the materials are perfect and the colours are superb. He describes the art piece as an "erratic molecule", with the outside conforming to cubic shapes.
Get to the Point
Hair Accessories Designer, Natalie Lleonart, likes using knitting needles to make hair ornaments. She glues on small cotton birds and plastic flowers. She made the first ones thinking no one would wear them because they were too nutty, but found that people really liked them. She says it all started with a piece she did for an exhibition about sentimentality and what knitting needles meant to her. Her grandmother was a prolific knitter, so it was a reference to her and to domestic craft. She got a good response, so she started making lots of them and became completely obsessed with knitting needles and plastic flowers. She says that people find ways of anchoring them and that even people with not much hair find a way.
Meat Can Keys
Swallow also specialise in zinc plated, wire formed meat can keys with single slot and welding projections. We can also manufacture two slot, soldered keys and loose keys for taping to cans.
